Suburb cottage club “Malaya Medvezhka” is one of the best places in Karelia (North-West Russian region) for comfortable and relaxing holidays. We can offer our Guests two hotels “Medvezhka” and “Zaimka” and 4 exclusively comfortable cottages “Dream”, “Castle”, “Three bears” and “Lukomorie” related for comfortable rest of 6-8 people. Each cottage has a fire-room, kitchen, sauna, bedrooms, satellite TV, karaoke, DVD and is equipped with modern other kitchen utensils. We are sure that holidays can be successful only if our Guests don’t think about washing and cleaning. And even if you want to forget about cooking – come to a cozy café “Medvezhka” faced with famous Karelian stone shungit and furnished with hard suits – everything is solid, reliable and seems eternal. It is worth coming here to enjoy truly Russian and Karelian dishes: bear’s flesh “Like in taiga” with nuts and red whortleberry or venison chop. We bet really that you’ve never eaten tastier than our hot pan-cakes with cloudberry jam.

Lovers of saunas can attend our Finnish sauna with basin, Russian bath (“banya”) or black bath (it stands right on the shore of the Onego lake!).

You miss snow? So skies – plain, mountain or snowboard – make your choice! In 5 kilometers from the club there are 4 slopes for mountain skiing and plain ski-routes. Ski-doos, ATB and even sledges are for your rest!
Summer can make you happy with bicycles, boats and motorboats. It is possible to get burnt on the sand beach while your boat or motor-launch is softly waving on the berth. Two steps aside – and you are on a carpet of whortleberries and blackberries. Shashliks, smoked trout – we don’t think it’s necessary to mention about it.
Our experienced guide can follow you to the places of interest – sightseeing that is famous all over the world – Belomoro-Baltic Channel or Sandarmokh memorial terrain. It will be his great pleasure to show you around the town where significant Russian films (“Love and doves”, “The Blind”, “Hunting for Piranha fish” and “Platinum”) were shot. By the way, within periods of shooting actors were living in our cottage club and they said that nowhere they had been able to restore their power as quickly as here.

Your exclusive choice – cottages Lukomorie, Three Bears and mini-hotel Zaimka made of dead-standing timber. There are no wood treatment technologies comparable with the regeneration of a “sleeping tree”. Houses built of dead-standing timber are the most ecologically clean among the wooden ones as the tree have been growing for hundreds years in ecologically clean times. As coming into the house a visitor will be caught at once to charms of a very specific fragrance of natural wood inside the house. Besides such wood makes the level of humidity and oxygen balance optimal for your health, and at last, the house does not need any decoration inside as texture of logs makes it unnecessary.
Trees for such houses are specially chosen in standing woods of Northern latitude near the Polar Circle. Only severe northern nature can give birth to trees with such a high density and firmness. When the tree comes to a certain age, its root system stops receiving enough nutrition and the tree begins to dry standing. The more cold winds dry it the more the dead tree becomes firm. Then it becomes the ideal material for house-building. In the old times in Russia architects chose firstly dead standing timber and even hewed the bark of living trees to come later and cut down a dry “dead-standing” tree.
Age of a dead-standing tree is defined by its rings and comes to 300 – 500 years depending from the diameter. Moreover the tree is possible to stand in such a status hundreds of years still. Houses of this timber can be lived in uncountable period of time. The scientists calculated the timing of a dead-standing log as if it is lying in the wet ground, and it makes 300 years. Nowadays only wealthy people can allow building of a house of a dead-standing timber.
